Walter L. Deuel September 27, 1917-November 16, 2005

At the age of 88, Walter L. Deuel of Corning NY, passed away Wednesday November 16, 2005 at his home. Walter was born September 27 1917 in Johnson City NY son of Walter and Mildred Harrington Deuel. He graduated from Clarkson University in 1940 with a BS degree in Business. He was employed by Corning in Wellsboro PA, and joined the Airforce in 1941. Upon his discharge from the service in 1945, he worked at Corning once again, in Corning. He became an agent for State Farm Insurance and had his office for many years on Denison Pkwy. He married Lois Wackford, August 10, 1984 in the Oxford Baptist Church. Always active in the First United Methodist Church in Corning, he not only held many offices, but he was very interested in mission work. He traveled extensively through out Central and S. America on mission trips and his wife Lois accompanied him on trips to Haiti and Guatemala. Walter had been a member of the Corning Country Club, Twin Tiers Tennis Club, and Crystal City Bridge Club. Always wanting to help people in need, he drove for the Cancer Society, and along with wife Lois, they delivered meals on wheels.

Surviving Walter are his loving and devoted wife Lois; stepsons Dennis (Deb) DeLong of Wappingers Falls NY, Douglas (Linda) DeLong of Norwich NY; step daughter Nancy (Tom) Bodziak of N. Chili NY; foster children: Ralph (Rhonda) Shove of Corning, Frank Buckley of Elmira, Elsa Santiallian of Peru, S. America; brothers: Carlin Deuel of Lake Placid FL, Kenneth (Jane) Deuel of Gulf Breeze FL; step grandchildren Robert DeLong of Chapel Hill SC, Corey Vance of Rochester, Michael Bodziak of N. Chili NY, Pamela Rothwell, Melinda Condon both of Norwich NY, Shannon Sheridan of NJ and Andrea Morgan of Herndon VA; seven step great grandchildren; nephews and a niece all from the Binghamton NY area Robert Deuel, Ellen Lewis, and Nancy English.

Predeceasing Walter were his parents and his first wife Helen Rupert Deuel.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Sunday November November 20, at 2 PM in the First United Methodist Church, 144 Cedar St, Corning NY.
